How to Get Ungated in Amazon Categories
Some of the best-selling brands and categories on Amazon are locked until you prove you can sell them. Getting "ungated" opens those doors. Here is how the process works.
What gating is
Amazon restricts certain brands and categories to fight counterfeits and protect buyers. Until you are approved, you simply cannot list those products.
Commonly gated areas
- Categories like grocery, beauty, health, and topicals.
- Many individual brands that require authorization.
The ungating process
- 1. Find the brand or category in Seller Central and click "Apply to sell" / "Request approval."
- 2. Submit the required documents — usually a compliant supplier invoice.
- 3. Wait for review; approval can be quick or take a few days.
The invoice is the key
The single most common requirement is a legitimate wholesale invoice that meets Amazon's rules. Get this wrong and the application is rejected. We cover exactly what qualifies in what is an Amazon-approved invoice.
Tips
- Make sure your business name and address match your Seller Central account exactly.
- Buy from a real distributor or brand-direct, not a retail store.
- Keep invoices recent (within 90 days) and for 10+ units.
